06/13/07 Being 'on the guard'
In the sport of MX you have to constantly be 'on the guard' or potential danger, from start to finish. When that gate drops, your main focus is to holeshot and checkout and stay away from potential squirly and careless riders..............if you don't holeshot, there's the battle of you and competitor, you and the course itself and the game to tactics involved with winning the race.
My first piece of advice to you is to stay extreemly cautious when involved with packs of riders in the heat of battle.................I know this is the least thing the younger rider is thinking, but as you get older and DO THE TIME in the sport, different thoughts and ideas surface that are actually very useful on the track.
On March 9th 2007 at the AMA spring national I incured the worsed trauma I have ever had in my 34 years racing, a broken femur. I never imagined this to be what it "really was" !
I have never in my whole life ever been placed with such a challenge. Not anything at all has compared to this injury. I do not wish this on anyone.
What actually caused this accident, I was in the first lap of one of my first motos, was in 3rd place..............I had taken the far outside to blast past first and second place when the second place rider hit the first place rider and his bike landed right in my path and I landed on it nice and hard.......................the split second before the impact I said " I don't need this CRAP " and that was it.
Trying to get up, I noticed my right leg was turned around backwards..........WOW &^%$# what a trip in itself !
In a nut shell guys, no matter how careful you are on the track, no matter how tacful you are.........there's always the other rider to look out for period.
THIS TIP IS DEDICATED TO MY BUDDY and LONGTIME MXer, Scooter Fincher....RIP Bro

06/21/06 Starts
If you have been following my last few tips, they are "Starts" related. I wonder why. You've probably noticed that most that finish up front are "up front starters".
Mastering your start off the gate is one thing, but mastering your "FIRST TURN CHARGE" is another. Yeah you could get the jump off the line and lead the start all the way to a few feet before the first turn, THEN LOSE IT !! I bet this rings alot of bells right now.
What I mean by charging the first turn is.......................running up on the first turn at the highest possible speed while properly setting up for the corner with complete control of your bike.....setting your angle "for the maximum exit from the first turn" Approaching the first turn from different angles is nessesary in some cases because of your pick on the gate, and/or where you line up on the gate.
This takes mastering, and every track is different in that the first turn has different turning ratio's, different dirt composition ect. As you practice your starts using these tips, you'll find a comfortable level of charging............................THATS NOT ENOUGH BRO. Its taking it to the next level thats gonna separate you from the others.
Your next practice day and every practice day from here on out should incorporate at least 30 minutes of "STARTING PRACTICE"
Any Questions? Call me direct.

03/19/06 Cement Start Follow-up
This tip is an update to a previous pro tip I had given months back on cement starts.
There's an extra detail that always works for me on cement starts.
After preparing your cement start dirt and sand FREE..................start your bike....backoff the gate to the end of the cement, move up to the front of the seat and "bark" your tire lightly . Then move yourself an inch or so back on your seat and "bark it again" and so on. Your gonna find a comfortable space on that seat where your tire is gonna grip more..........find that space. If you've never done this you'll be supprised how neat this works.
Now apply this with max power, limited slippage of the clutch till you get off the cement, then full clutch disengagment and that max power..........you should have a super start. Of course your timing has everything in the world to do with a good start. Your objective also is to keep that rear tire from breaking loose on the cement and spinning up...........this isn't good.
Practice this over and over and over, you'll master it in no time...........you cannot let the guy lined up next to you distract you whatsoever.
Work on it. Send me an update or questions 24hrs a day at: info@clementracing.net

11/02/05 the importance of a good start !
We're live from Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino California. The weather is awesome and track is totally the best ever.
Tip for today is: the importance of a good start !
A good start usually ends up with a great finish in most cases, unless you just cannot quit CRASHING *^%#@!
Practice on starts at least 1/3 of your practice day when practicing. This will dramatically affect your finishes.
A great start places you in a position to move forward and not get tied up with a pack of riders.
Start practicing "charging" the first turn with max speed..................you will eventually reach a comfortable speed you can stick with. Then practice starting off the start gate over and over till you conquer the task of getting off the gate quick..........with minimal spin { on cement starts } These type of start gates require practice to master, one of my previous tips mentions a great proceedure to master.
Stay tuned as we will be doing " Live Tips" each day thru November 6th from Glen Helen Raceway in California.
See ya at the races...............

08/18/05 Air Filters
This summer has truly been a memorable one regards to how many "Air Filter" related engine seizures have passed my way here at Clement Racing. It has seemed that air filter neglect and the extreme heat has taken its toll on many many riders.
In one or more of my previous tips, I have mentioned how extreemly important it is for proper air filter maintenence.
"Ready Filters " are now available, pre-oiled and ready for quick quick installation . Pricing about $9 . Avoid a costly error, maintain those filters.

06/21/05 Metzler Tires
Metzler tires has been one of the leaders in MX tires for decades. Though its been years since we've actually tested any of their tires, we took the liberty to to test a particular style this weekend at a local track. We tested the MC-4 110/90-19 rear tire. The tire held up awesome in deep and shallow sand conditions. Hooked up on medium dry conditions super, and tracked awesome through corners. Our tire pressure tested was 12 lbs. This is one tire I would personally recommed for 250 and 450's. Way to go Metzler !!!!

03/25/05 ***********EASTER QUICK TIP******************
Tired of throttle problems? Are you one of those riders that occationally breaks his throttle housing (tube ) because of a crash? This can be very aggravating especially if it happens on race day and your "stuck" without a replacement housing. There are a few aftermarket companies that manufacture "Aluminum" throttle tubes. These are awesome !!!! They are vurtually indistructable and offer a more smooth feeling operation. Plus you really wont get stranded at the races with a broken one anymore. This awesome product starts around $40. This extreemly durable product keeps you from getting "stranded" at the race track without replacement because of a crash. 02/17/05 Mud Racing !
If you really have to compete in a race thats muddy and wet, there are a few things you should do to prepare your bike for these kind of conditions.
Be sure you have a water displacement product such as WD-40 or one of several types of silicone spray.
Spray this product underneath all fenders and mud flaps, this aids in keeping the mud from sticking to your fenders.
Spray your shock linkages, foot peg joints, and electrical components.......................anywhere that your gonna get mud and water............except your grips and seat of course !
This practice will help eliminate a few if not more headaches down the road. However, your gonna still have to clean up your bike when its all over.
If your in extreme water and sandy conditions, you should remove your wheels and clean the seals and axle and re-grease thoroughly. Definately clean that air filter, Re-oil using Maxima FFT foam filter oil. This is the BEST !!
Remove your gas tank and inspect for sand / mud accumilation on the frame, then remove. Remove your clutch, front brake and throttle assemblies and clean. You be amazed what you'll find in your throttle tube.
Of course you'd do better not riding your bike in these harsh conditions........period !!! Wet sand and water tear will up a bike inside and out very quickly !!
Got a particular issue with your bike? Call me direct at Clement Racing 936-447-3550

01/11/05 New Year Special Guest: Larry Hughes of Parts Unliimited
Today Michael Clement of Clement Racing and Larry Hughes of Parts Unlimited will be conversing on their past Pro MX careers:
MC: Larry, when was your biggest highlight of your pro mx career? LH: My biggest highlight as a pro would have to be qualifying for the 1983 Lake Whitney AMA Pro National. Even though I had some bad luck in both of the moto's, I was running near top 10 for most of the second moto before crashing. Racing with factory riders like David Bailey, Rick Johnson, Bros Glover and Donnie Hansen was a great feeling.
LH: The Houston Supercross in 82, 83, 84 were also fun ! In 82, I finished 8th in my first heat race. RIck Johnson, Jeff Ward, Johnny O'mara and Scott Burnsworth were the top 4 in the heat race that qualified for the main. Of course 1984 stands out, because that was the year I beat Mike Clement in the semi and got the last transfer spot to the last chance qualifier.
MC: I knew you were gonna mention that bit about the 84 supercross Larry !
MC: My most favorite highlight was my last pro national at Red Bud in July of 2001. It was the last chance qualifier to make it to the Sunday Program, I got a crappy pick on the line so I moved all the way to the inside spot on the starting line because I noticed a very smooooth place there. So the gate dropped, I looked to my right and I was in holeshot position...........................I reached the first turn then Ezra Lusk blew by me on his factory Kawasaki.....................I stayed in 2nd position for about a lap or two then knowing all I had to do is make the top ten.......................I paced myself throughout the moto and came in 7th, transfering me automatically to the Sunday program which made my day, its was also my birthday too !! I have learned through the years that great starts in especially an AMA National mean EVERYTHING. I have rode with the best of the best through my pro career which extended from 1980 on and off thru 2001, it was truly an inspiration.
MC: Larry, what advice do "you" have for any rider that has the desire to become a pro mx'er someday?
LH: 1) You have to love what you are doing and work hard at it. 2) Dont do it to prove anything to anybody. Do it because you love to ride 3) Surround yourself with good influences 4) Do not burn any bridges. Keep a good relationship with all sponsors
MC: I'd also like to add that if you have the dream of becoming a pro rider, then make it happen. Go for your dreams !
MC: Id like to thank Larry Hughes of Parts Unlimited for his time in joining us today. See everyone at the races:

01/02/05 New Years Safety Tip
Through my 30 years of motocrossing I have seen tons of serious crashes that could have been avoided. Several were from taking chances that were very careless. Many of these crashes resulted in my friends losing their lives.
My tip to you this new year is to think twice before taking chances on the track. Make the right choice.

12/12/04 Quick Mod
If you'd like to gain as much as 10-12% from your motor without much work and money. I have found through the years that the Boyesen RAD Valve is an awesome product. We run this product on most of our race bikes and have for years now. It takes about 30-45 minutes to install, requires minimal "IF ANY " jetting changes and gives you very noticable results. But of course you cannot run any STOCK classes with this product. Sorry !!! If you have a 125 or 250cc two stroke bike..............You can get them at Clement Racing for only $129 Mention this tip when calling !!! Hope all will attend the benefit race this weekend for Heath and Eldon. Clement Racing will definately be there !! See you at the races, Michael Clement #255 Clement Racing 936-447-3550

12/08/04 Clutch and Brake Lever Tip
Are you one of those riders who has the standard clutch and brake levers with brass bushings? Probably so. There are a few manufacturers that make these levers with small needle bearings which dramatcally reduce operating drag. In another words, your cluch lever pulls in so much easier and your front brake is effortless. This is a quick tip that you can do to see IMMEDIATE results in your controls. Its awesome. Call me at Clement Racing if you'd like to score some of these awesome products. The average price per is about $20 Stay tuned for the next Super Quick Tip live from Clement Racing on Friday December 8th. See ya at the races........................... 11/06/04 PART 3 "Spark Plug Fouling"
Another important tip that goes un-checked on several occations is your carburator connections. You'd be supprised how many bikes I see that come in for service and have their carbs mounts loose.
This not only causes unwanted air to be sucked in but it also sucks in dirt, dust, sand ect.
In several cases you'll usually blow up your motor before the plugs has a chance to foul.
Always check and tighten all screws and bolts on your bike, it could be costly if you don't.
Part 4 comes next week live from CLEMENT RACING .
See you at the races, Michael Clement #255
|
11/05/04 Part 2 on Spark Plug Fouling
If after toubleshooting your particular situation and found your jetting wasn't the cause for your plug fouling.............it could be a leaky crank seal.
The seal behind your ignition stator is easy to replace, however if your clutch side crank seal is bad.......this in some bikes requires the engine case to be split and some you just have to remove the clutch gear and remove the seal.
Faulty seals allow air and \ or oil to be sucked into the engine which could cause nothing but bad news for a bike engine.
You can call us at Clement Racing and we would be delighted to help you determine your course of action to your application.
There a few more parts to this chapter in "PLUG FOULING" stay tuned.
We'll be LIVE from Glen Helen Raceway here in Cali on Friday.

11/01/04 Spark Plug Fouling PART 1
Are you one of those guys that constantly fouls spark plugs?
This is a problem that can be mastered by just following a few tips and measures.
2 stokes can be notorious for fouling plugs, especially if the jetting is off.
Lets just start with this PART ONE and cover the small rider ( Beginner ) you could say, that's always fouling plugs left and right...over and over.
Well, for one thing your probbably loading the bike down too much, not keeping the RPM's up........witch causes a huge amount of un-burned oil and gas to be exhausted. You can usually tell if your loading the bike up too much when you have excess oil and gas dripping from the front of your exhaust pipe and your silencer. If this is the case.............I have a quick and easy solution for your problem.
First of all, pull out your spark plug........If it shows to be completely BLACK..........your jetting could be leaned out to possibly correct problem and a few other minor things. Each riders application may be different.
To remedy this particular problem quickly, call me direct at Clement Racing 936-447-3550 Tues thru Fri 10am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm.
Part 2 of Jetting problems will come on Wednesday Nov 3rd LIVE from Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Ca

10/20/04 New Bike Tip
Ive seen lots of riders lately showing up here at the shop with their new 05 model bikes. Nothing seems to be better than a FRESH NEW BIKE, Im sure you'll agree. Most are coming right from the factory with updated trick accessories. Before you really get use to that new 05, a trick tip is to dress the bike with your required rubber front and rear, get the suspension tweeked to your riding specifications and be sure you've got the right handlebars and grips to your liking. These few tips when initiated in the beginning when getting that new bike, can help you get use to the bike easier and quicker. Plus you have that peace of mind that "You've got your bike together" You can get use to the new bike and the new feel of your accessories and suspension all at once........ This is very important to me especially when getting ready for a big race coming up, knowing that everything on my bikes are in sync. ******* ******* ******* ****** ***** We've decided to compete in a few classes at the Dealers Challenge this weekend in preparation for our trip to Cali. Its a mad house around here at Clement Racing the next 2 weeks, we're getting ready to head to California November 3rd to defend the Vet Expert World Title at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino. . Lots of preparation is being done on the bikes and my physical training level has been raised. 10/06/04 Clean Up Tips
Here is a great rule of thumb to go by when washing up your bike at the end of a race day. These few tips can save you time and money.
An awesome cleaner to use on your bike is, a bathroom cleaner called "Dow Scrubbing Bubbles "..........Power wash your bike and get all the loose dirt off of it. Then spray the scubbing bubbles all over the plastic, wheels, engine, shock linkage..........literally everything...........let it sit for 1 minute then power wash the bike to an awesome clean. This cleaner seems to surpass tons of cleaners I have used for years.
When your done rinsing off you bike, get an air hose and blow out all the water from around all your engine parts, wheels, linkages, lever perches ect. Spray a thin lubricant like wd-40 on your foot peg joints, rear brake lever joints, shock linkages and exhaust pipe then dry off excess with a towel. I have refrained from spraying wd-40 on the engine because it attracts dirt and dust.
An awesome air filter tip is the "PC Racings " "Filter Skins" which take some of the work out of frequent air filter changes...........this product is totally awesome.
Try the Dow scubbing bubbles cleaner, found at any grocery store and the Filter Skins.......these are 2 simple products that make bike maintenence a little easier.

09/13/04 Oil Changes
Many riders do not give much attention to changing their transmission oil very often. This can cause several problems that not many are aware of.
A good rule of thumb on oil changes is after your third ride................................change the oil. Some cases your oil may still look new and some cases your oil may look dirty. We recommend a 20w50 Synthetic oil. Synthetic oil has no thermal breakdown and will give you the best protection available. Our team uses the Amzoil 20w50 Synthetic, the cost of this oil averages about $7.95 Qt. Though any 20w50 SYnthetic oil should work just fine for you....................there are several brands out there that are cheaper in price.
Dont over-fill !!!!!! Use the exact amount stated in your owners manuel or listed on your engine side cover. Overfilling can cause extreme clutch slippage and cause gaskets and seals to fail.

08/18/04 Fitness Tip
Jogging at least a mile everyday has been a key factor for me in motocross. But jogging alone does not do it ! Incorporating a weekly weight lifting schedule like the one in a previous "MX Tip" and a weekly riding schedule will help to insure that you get the most out of your MX training. Many have different issues such as loss of breath, arm pump, loss of energy, mental fatigue and so on. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !! If you are serious about your MX game as I am............................INCORPORATE PROPER FITNESS AND SUPPLIMENTS. I recommend www.Bulknutrition.com . This site gives you a huge selection of health products that helps the true MXer keep right on track. 08/02/04 Spokes
Usually weekly I will have someone come to the shop with Spoke / Rim issues. This usually ranges from Broken Spokes, Broken Nipples, A rim that has been bent or tweeked crooked from tightening the spokes too tight or not in a proper sequence. Eventually they will probably weed out the old conventional type spoke nipples and replace with the "Spline Drive" type which help eliminate stripping. The old conventional type spoke nipples tend to strip very easily and eventually cause problems in keeping your rims tru and straight. It is important to check your spoke tension daily before each ride to insure a safe and error free session. Spokes tightend too tight will cause the rim to bend or aquire "Flat Spots" easily from jumps and rough track sections...................the spokes need to have a certain amount of flex when supporting a rim...this is important. DONT EVER OVER TIGHTEN SPOKES. When checking spoke tension, always tighten from side to side, this will help to insure your rim does'nt pull to one side and wobble. Got a bike issue? Call me direct a Clement Racing 936-447-3550 Michael Clement # 255

07/13/04 Got Grips?
There is huge selection of handlebar grips on the market today. The material compounds vary in SOFT < MEDIUM < HARD................................
Have you ever changed brands of grips and noticed that you have less arm pump? Less blisters? More arm pump? More blisters?
Finding the set of grips that fit your style is a MUST !! The right pair can dramatically change way the bike feels and can reduce blisters / calasses that tend to form on MX'ers hands.
I have personally went through hundreds and hundreds of grips through the years and have found a pair thats pretty awesome..............you may want to try these on for size.
Pro-Grip makes a "Gel Grip" thats totally awesome. They are soft but yet durable, weather high resistant..............and seem to help eliminate calasses and yield a more comfortable feel of your bars. They retail for about $15 - $17 They are worth the try.
Also, use grip glue instead of safety wire......................you'll get more life out the grips. Grip glue when used properly will definately keep the grips in place and from rotating.

06/21/04 Cable Lubrication
You'd be supprised how many riders go without lubing their clutch and throttle cables at all, until they BREAK. Go to your local race shop a pick up a cable luber. Remove your clutch cable from the clutch perch and install the luber and inject a light oil such a wd-40, then re-install the cable to the perch......................................you will see dramatic results in the way the clutch now feels. As far as the throttle cable goes..................remove your throttle from the bars and take apart the throttle assembly and remove the cable......................install the luber and repeat as above. Your throttle is now working easier. Clean out your throttle tube throughly....................you'll find that a build up of dirt and grime a has developed through time. 06/07/04 Shock Linkage Maintenance
Maintaining your shock linkage is very important in the handling of your bike. Each week I find a bike or two that has never had the linkage cleaned and greased. In some cases the linkage bolts are hell to remove due to a lack of grease. To maintain your rear suspension linkage remove your rear shock bolts, linkage bolts, and shock linkage as a whole. Clean thoroughly in a solvent and re-grease and re-install. You must be extreemly careful with the needle bearings when disassembling your linkage. You will be supprised on how much different your rear suspension feels after cleaning and re-greasing your rear shock linkage, especially if you've never done this before and its been a year or two. If its been at least this long you may want to go ahead and replace the needle bearings anyway...this is recommended. Little tips like this can go a long way in bike maintenence......................Need some special advice on a bike maintenence issue? 05/24/04 Preparing for a race............Starts
Yesterday May 23rd a Clutch City was a awesome race day for many, however............many had huge problems with their starts. A half dozen people throughout the day came up to me asking advice on their starting procedures. In one of my previous "Tips" months back, I went over a few important factors regarding starts..................these are very crucial especially on cement starting pads. You can view this particular tip by scrolling down with your mouse here at HoustonMotocross.com.......Pro Tips Section In order to master your starts , you must practice at it in depth. Spending a good 30 minutes on your starts per practice day will result in positive results. MAKE NOTE OF THIS !!! A good start in most cases results in a good finish. I will be having 2 Motocross Camps this summer, one in June and one in July. Stay tuned for the actual dates, they're being scheduled at this time. You will have an opportunity to sign up for either or both of these camps soon. By the way, "Starting Procedures" will be a huge part of these camps !! See ya ta the track..................... 05/03/04 Front Break Usage
Front brake usage is an important part in motocross. Most do not even use the front brake. The front brake used in conjuction with the rear brake can dramatically increase your lap times. You can charge into corners twice as fast easily. Practice using your front brake evenly with the rear brake on your next practice day. After using both brakes together you'll adapt a new comfortable medium in STOPPING !!! Then proceed to the next step......................try charging into your corners with a little more throttle................then at your comfortable braking point<<<<<<<<<<< Everyone has their own certain points of throttle and braking levels >>>>>>>>>>>>>>..find yours and practice the technique. This will dramatically increase your lap times. See ya at the races. Michael Clement # 255 Clement Racing 936-447-3550

04/18/04 Pace, Consistency, Confidence
Have you ever pulled the holeshot and totally went bezerk while in front, barely holding onto the bike.................letting your bike ride you instead of "you"riding your bike? Heres a "quick" tip that you should practice on: Getting the holeshot is a task in itself, but holding onto the lead is a totally different one. Pacing yourself at a moderate speed is a good start. Just relax and pace yourself at a comfortable level for a lap or so, then if you feel you can add a little throttle, add whats comfortable to "you".......................... You must take the track conditions into consideration........... You dont ride the same in lose sandy conditions as you would in hard packed dry conditions. !!!!!!!! Pacing yourself takes solid concentration, without any pressure from the guy behind you. Practice this extensively on your days off at the track, ride the same pace for a few laps, then increase your pace speed a little each lap. You will notice after practicing this regularly...........................your race results will get better. Being consistant builds confidence................... Confidence builds skill. Skill builds winners ! See ya at the track. Michael Clement #255 Clement Racing 936-447-3550

04/05/04 Finding your right Handlebar Bend.
Most end up riding their bikes with the type handlebars that come with their bikes...............there is a whole market of neat bars on the market with different heights and bends which could improve your riding skills dramatically. There are also different offset triple clamps available for most bike to also improve the handling of your bike, however trying a different bend and height bars just may be whats your looking for for tons less than triple clamps. I personally enjoy a Yamaha bend, low rise bar for my Honda..............its just works better for me. If your open for a suggestion like this, try another type bar ................change the height and / or bend just a bit and see if there is any improvement in the way you handle your bike. It works for many riders at a fairly cheap price. Keep in mind that there are many type bends and heights to choose from. Michael Clement Clement Racing 936-447-3550

03/25/04 Goggle Fog?
Do you have problems with your goggles fogging up constantly? In hot and cold weather ? I constantly do, even in the 100 degree heat of the summer. I have tried just about every no-fog potion to add to goggle lenses which gave no success. There is a neat goggle thats been out for quit a while that you may want to sample. Its called the "Smith Turbo" The goggle has a built in fan in the top of the goggle that runs off a small consealed battery pack.......its trick !! The goggle keeps the fog out and offers some cooling which is pretty awesome. Its great when you can be in the heat of a race and not have to worry about your goggles fogging up. See ya at "Clutch City" this weekend. Michael Clement # 255 Clement Racing

03/07/04 Mud Racing Clean-up
A super bike tip on "Cleaning up from a mud race" Most that I've seen do not properly maintain their bikes after a mud race....................this could be hazardous to bearings ,seals, bushings, and even the engine internally. A good rule of thumb is to properly clean your wheel seals and check bearings for sand and mud presence. Clean your shock linkage seals to remove mud and sand. And of course, clean the air filter. Lever / perch bushings and /or seals should be cleaned. Remove front and rear brake pads,...........check the calipers for mud and sand presence. Check pads for excessive wear and replace if needed. Transmission oil should be replaced also. By implementing a few extra steps bike maintenence, you could actually avoid excessive costs. Michael Clement Clement Racing 936-447-3550

02/25/04 Chest Protectors!
It amazes me how many riders DO NOT wear chest protectors. If you watch the pro classes, very few of these riders wear any and going that speed your chances of crashing are pretty great. I use to be one of those guys till I sustained a chest injury, that woke me up. I know chest protectors can be constrictive at times and seem to be uncomfortable..............however..............The chest protector can easily SAVE YOUR LIFE !! There has been tons of riders Killed, Paralized, and injured for life from not wearing them.........there is absolutely no excuse to NOT Wear Them ! And anyway, who like bolders smashing up against their chest at high speeds.....................usually the younger riders. The next time you get on your bike......................think about it ! 02/18/04 Simple Weekly MX Training
What I mean by "Simple" is an easy program you can adapt to and stick by. I use a gym for all the equipment, however...if you have all the stuff at home.........go for it. To stay atop of your MX game, it takes devotion.................and I mean week after week after week. Not just a one day a week scenario. This is what I go by weekly and every week for the passed 15 years. Saturday, Sunday and Monday's are off days. Tuesdays.............treadmill 1 mile, weight training in shoulders, mega military, 200 crunches Wednesday...........treadmill 1 mile, weight training in back, biceps.............200 crunches Thursday..............weight training in Legs............squats, extensions, leg curls, calfs Fridays.................weight training in biceps, triceps, chest.........................100 crunches *********Consult your doc before attempting to lift heavy weight******** As far as supplements go, I use a no carb protein powder each day in the morning, and a low carb , hi protein bar to snack on at the gym to curb hunger. Try this program for 3-4 weeks and watch what it does to your endurance and the way you throw your bike around.........just try it. ! Got questions? 02/12/04 Chain Tension
Proper Chain Tension Chain tension is extremely important in racing today. First of all, keeping your drive chain properly lubed.............we endorse the Klotz "Extra Tac" Anti Wear Chain Lube. It sticks great and stays there through the race......and cleans up great at the car wash. Improper chain tension can cause several things to happen. Excessive sprocket and chain wear......too tight or too loose ! We use a 2 finger rule for tension on most models.....Place 2 fingers on top of your plastic chain guide on swingarm and tighten or loosen chain at this gap...............this is an excellent rule to go by. You'll get the max life out of your chain and sprockets. If your chain is too tight, this could result in a hazardous situation..........we've seen countershafts break clean off from the engine causing major expense. Also make sure your chain guides are completly even with each other...............uneven guides could cause excessive sprocket wear and even cause your chain to de-rail the sprockets. Not Good !! In closing I would also urge you to NEVER purchase a CHEAP chain for your bike just to SAVE money. Cheap chains will stretch constantly and wear your sprockets out in no time. We endorse the DID ERT gold chain.........usually about $80 for and 520 size. This chain is awesome, with minimum streching and high strength. See ya at the races........... 02/04/04 Lean Jetting Conditions ***URGENT ***
The cooler the weather gets , you'll probably notice changes in the way your bike runs. Lean jetting conditions: Poor acceleration, engine does'nt respond well to opening the throttle. Knocking or pinging under a load indicates a lean condition. Surging at idle or part throttle may indicate a lean condition, but could also be ignition related. Cures for lean conditions: Higher octane fuel. If your running pump gas, a higher octane race fuel could completely cure your problem totally. We endorse Klotz 113 Octane Race Fuel, all our team riders use this fuel and love it. It totally wakes up 125's and 250's. Another cure for lean conditions is increasing jet size...........this may be very nessesary depending on your certain situation. If you have any certain situations that you need advice on, please call me direct at 936-447-3550 See you at the races, Michael Clement # 255 Clement Racing

01/28/04 Starting
Getting good starts usually ends up in a good finish, thats old news.....everyone knows that.
The start of the race if initiated properly can place you in the front positions that bring the "REAL" rewards.
Though everyone seems to have their own starting technique----------------the ones that are usually up front are the ones that practice their starts regularly, and have their technique "DOWN"
There are a few types of starts.............Dirt................Cement. Though "Dirt" starts require a different technique that "Cement" starts do................there are very few of these left in the U.S.
FYI.........Swan Raceway in Tyler, Texas is one of the few tracks left with a "Dirt" start and I LOVE IT !!!!
For now I will go over the "Cement" version.
Though some like to "Smoke the Tires" upon exiting the gate................I have a very effective method of rolling off the gate with max power and max clutch slippage till exiting the cement portion of the gate, then totally engaging full clutch and throttle and shifting weight to the rear of the seat for max traction. This method has resulted in more holeshots than "Smokin the Tires".
Try this process over and over on your own.........you'll see results. Practice makes perfect !
Placing yourself in the front of the pack in the beginning will always give youy a better chance of winning.
If "YOU" are not the lead dog, "YOUR" scenery never changes.......and that could be depressing, at least from my point of view.

01/22/04 Tire Pressure is key
Tire pressure is major key factor in the way a bike tracks, handles, and basically stays together.
If your tire pressure is too low, your bike will not track and handle properly , your tires will wear irregularly, your rims are in danger of getting flat spots in them and you'll tend to have lots of flat tires. Also in thick / tacky track conditions, low tire pressure will cause your front and rear suspension to feel
sluggish.
Too much air in your tires will cause excessive wearing to the center of the tire, and is very un-safe in dry track conditions. Also you'll notice your bike feels like its riding on a hard surface constantly giving you a rougher ride.
If you need a guide in a proper tire pressure for your bike, please dont hesitate to call me direct at 936-447-3550.
Next tip of the week, The Starting Line Stay Tuned !!!!!!!!!!!

01/15/04 Keep the Filter Clean!
One of the most popular causes of engine failure is air filter related. Dont get
lazy and "not" clean your air filter after each ride, it could resort in a costly
repair.
A good quality foam filter oil should be used such as Maxima FFT Foam filter oil,
do not use filter oil that comes in a spray can, it's not thick enough to block sand
properly. Also its very important to grease the rim of the filter too.
You'd be suprised to see how many people use just plain motor oil on their filters
and "NO" grease.
